Tom Hood: Has been at St. Monica since 2002 he has contributed greatly to the success of the school and community. Tom is a tireless worker who ensures that the athletics program at the school operates with a resolve and professionalism uncommon for our Catholic schools.
Helps to recruit volunteer coaches and has a network of contacts that help the children learn, gain skills and most of all have fun. he faces many challenges in selecting coaches and forming teams, and handles difficult conflicts professionally and with care for the students and school. Tom is firm, but fair is the phrase often used to describe him. Mr. Hood is an innovator, adopting the Impact testing protocol to evaluate head injuries and keep our kids safe. Also, Tom was a primary driver behind the development and implementation of the scheduling app for the entire DPL. Tom has the respect and appreciation of his fellow athletic directors and readily provides them with support.
Always keeps the needs of the students and families in the front of his mind and has their interests as a primary objective. Mr. Hood gives a tremendous amount of time to attend all types of events, and not just sports. Our athletics program is one of the best around, entirely due to Mr. Hood and his efforts.
Daniel Neves:While Mr. Neves has not worked for a long time at St. Monica, he already feels like part of the family.
He always lends a helping hand when it comes to anything that was needed from him. His personality is one to remember, as there is always a smile on his face. There has never been a time that I have witnessed Daniel not helping someone – regardless of if it is a staff, parent or child. He teaches our kids to accept both victory and defeat with equal grace and sportsmanship, encouraging personal accountability. He builds up our kids by accentuating their strengths rather than pointing out their weaknesses. Speaking confidence to our kids is my definition of taking it above and beyond. Daniel was placed in these kids’ lives for a reason and is an outstanding example of how to create an impression that will continue beyond a season of basketball.
We are fortunate to have them both work with our students – thank you for nominating them and thank you Tom and Daniel for all you do.
