Upper School

Upper School: 6th, 7th, and 8th grades

St. Monica Catholic School encourages students to achieve academically and to grow spiritually. Our teachers infuse daily learning opportunities with activities designed to develop higher-order thinking skills, intended to challenge students to perform to the best of their abilities, and focused on a growing understanding of their responsibilities within a Catholic community.

CURRICULUM

Our curriculum meets both national and state educational requirements. St. Monica School is fully accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops Education Department (TCCBED), which is approved by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Our curriculum is designed by the Office of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Dallas and is outlined in the Diocesan Curriculum Guide. Basic to the curriculum is the study of the following:

• Leadership Retreat
• Confirmation Retreat (8^th grade)
• Daily prayer before each class
• Living Stations of the Cross Before Easter
• May Crowning Mass in May (8^th grade)

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

• Block English/Language Arts Classes
• Honors Math and Honors ELA classes
• Emphasis on research, reading, and writing skills in all subject areas
• Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, History Bee, Religion Bowl, and Quiz Bowl

SERVICE

• Confirmation service projects, Super Bowl of Caring, and other service projects
• Student buddies with primary grades (6th-8th grades)
• Serve in Safety Patrol, Student Council, and NJHS (6th-8th grades)
