General Information for E-Learning

Introduction to E-Learning

• Understanding E-Learning is essential.   E-Learning is teaching or learning, utilizing electronic technologies to access educational curriculum outside of a traditional classroom.
• It can be interactive, live, prerecorded, or project assignments to be turned in for traditional or alternative assessments.

 
Goals

• To maintain continuity of learning in a digital environment.
• To maintain and utilize existing systems and processes to provide familiarity and continuity for staff, students, and families in a digital environment.
• To maintain the requirements of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Texas Catholic Conference Bishops Education Department (TCCBED).

 
Communication Safety:
In order to protect students, faculty, and staff, the following Safe Environment Policies are in place:

• Parents must have access to all communication that students are receiving.

• Any new website, video conferencing tool, etc., that is used must be appropriately vetted by teachers and administrators for students’ privacy and safety.
• If using any type of video chat platform, such as Zoom, the platform must be used for group calls only and be set to record calls which are then saved to an account to which at least two Safe Environment cleared adults have access.  If a one-on-one conferencing is necessary with a student, a parent must be present.
• In extraordinary circumstances, the Safe Environment Policy permits the use of email, text messages, or other electronic communication with a minor only if a second safe environment cleared adult is included in the communication.  (Safe Environment Program, Section 4.21).

 
Student Expectations

• All students are expected to participate in E-Learning activities and lessons, including teacher instruction, self-guided learning, and assessments.
• Students are encouraged to ask teachers for help and clarification when needed.
• All students will demonstrate participation by satisfactorily completing daily E-Learning assignments.
• Students will commit to learning durations outlined in the E-Learning Schedules.
• Students will check in daily for attendance purposes.
• Students will demonstrate digital citizenship as well as exercise academic integrity according to our VBRD virtues of temperance, prudence, honesty, and fortitude.

 
Parent Expectations

• Parents will encourage a healthy learning environment to aid in successful learning for their child.
• Parents must have access to all communication that students are receiving.
• Parents will monitor student engagement, learning, and online activity.
• Parents will encourage students to contact the teacher when questions arise.
• Parents will monitor and help their child to check in daily unless the child is sick and an absence is reported by the parent.

 
Teacher Expectations

• Teachers will communicate with students and parents primarily through the school’s E-Learning portal: Seesaw for pre-K through 5^th grades, Moodle for 6^th through 8^th grades. If an individual email must be sent to a student for any reason, teachers will use parent emails for that purpose. 

• Teachers will focus on the new Diocesan curriculum standards for the rest of the school year and create a scope and sequence for each subject, focusing on essential, critical units of instruction.
• Teachers will continue to post weekly lesson plans in Renweb to include learning goals/objectives from the new standards, the method to deliver new information (video/reading material, etc…), and assignment.  Lesson plans for the week must be posted by 9:00 pm Sunday. 
• Teachers will post daily/weekly lessons (see schedule), assignments, resources, such as links to other websites/videos on Seesaw/Moodle by 8:00 am Monday through Friday.  Students will submit assignments by 9:00 pm daily, or as specified by the teacher.  Teachers will not assign work for the weekends.
• PreK-5^th grade teachers will monitor daily attendance through Seesaw. They will post an announcement by 8:00 am daily, students will “like” the announcement in Seesaw by 9:00 pm.  Teachers will enter daily attendance in Renweb. 
• 6th - 8th grade teachers will monitor daily attendance through Moodle. Teachers will post an assignment by 8:00 am daily, for their homeroom. The student will login to their homeroom through Moodle and complete the assignment posted by 9:00 pm. Teachers will enter daily attendance in Renweb.
• Teachers will be available via email and Seesaw/Moodle during regular working hours. 
• Teachers will be monitoring student progress via assignment submissions and live conferences.
• Teachers will utilize alternative forms of assessment and give choices to students.
• Spanish teacher will post weekly lessons/assignments on Seesaw/Moodle.  The completion of the weekly assignment will not exceed a total of 30 minutes.  This could include watching a video, Spanish language games, or anything the teacher might see fit.
• Technology teachers will post weekly assignments on Seesaw/Moodle.  The completion of the weekly assignment will not exceed a total of 30 minutes. 
• Music and art teachers will post weekly fun ideas/assignments/videos on Seesaw/Moodle.  The completion of these assignments will not be required but it will serve as a resource for engaging, educational activities to do at home.  Music and Art will be exempt from grading in the 4^th quarter. 
• PE teachers will post weekly “Brain Break” exercises and physical activities via Seesaw.  Students will have the option to engage in the recommended exercises. PE will be exempt from grading in the 4^th quarter. 
• Dyslexia Therapists will continue with their small groups of students, utilizing digital teaching and post assignments via Seesaw.
• Reading support teachers will continue with her small groups of students, utilizing digital teaching and post assignments via Seesaw. 

 
Assignments

• Content will integrate as seamlessly as possible into the new Diocesan standards.  Lessons and assignments should be meaningful, free of busywork. 
• All assignments must be posted through Seesaw/Moodle, with no exceptions.  Starting on March 30^th, emailing assignments and submitting assignments via email will not be acceptable.
• Subjects and required hours of study are based on Diocesan E-Learning requirements and are specified in the “Schedule” section.
• Completion of select assignments and submission of all assignments require access to the internet. 

 
Assistant Principal Expectations

• AP will be available to support teachers, parents, and students.
• AP will hold weekly faculty meetings via Zoom, Skype, or live conference platforms.
• AP will check in with teachers individually every few days.
• AP will monitor lesson plans on Renweb.
• AP will monitor teacher and student activities on Seesaw/Moodle on a daily basis.
• AP will be working closely with the principal and other administrative and academic support staff to ensure smooth operation. 
• AP will attend to all other tasks not directly related to e-learning, in preparation for the next school year.

These are suggested schedules designed to keep the continuity of instruction and learning.  Your family may use a range of times that is different than these suggested.
