Book clubs provide an enjoyable and easy way for your child to develop many literacy skills. Students will learn new vocabulary words and gain exposure to new ideas and concepts.
Students in grades 2-5 will through discussion develop a deeper understanding of books, consider others’ perspectives, and practice analyzing, making predictions, and solving problems. They may also participate in the First Annual Book Bowl in May.
Middle school members meet monthly as a group in the library during lunch/recess to discuss some of the best Young Adult books in the SMS library. Benefits include fostering a sense of community, intellectual stimulation, “meeting” book characters they can relate to, or learning about those who have very different life experiences, come from other cultures, or were born during a significant time in history.
Students in second through eighth grades have the option to join their peers once per month for a parent-led discussion about a book provided by the St. Monica Library.

When: Once per month (Oct, Nov, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr) during students’ regularly scheduled lunch/recess; specific dates forthcoming
