August 2021 Teacher of the Month

In 2020, we were blessed to have Mrs. Newman join our faculty. In her short time at SMS, Mrs. Newman has endeared herself to her students as the “growth mindset” teacher, inspiring her students' love of learning, challenging them to be the best that they can be. Mrs. Newman implements these ideas into her classroom in engaging ways that serve as an example to other teachers on campus as well as teachers at other schools.

Mrs. Newman’s openness to change and growth is an avenue through which she teaches her students about flexibility and different ways of thinking about a problem. She is innovative in her use of technology while using creative strategies to meet the needs of her diverse learners while keeping them engaged.

Mrs. Newman is kind and caring, truly taking the time to get to know each of her students. One student put it beautifully: “She encourages us to be better every day. She makes us feel proud of the work we did in the week and also makes us feel good about who we are as people. She makes me feel recognized and proud of myself.”

We honor Mrs. Newman for going above and beyond for our kids. Teachers like Mrs. Newman inspire their kids to see their potential and ignite a love for learning. Mrs. Newman, thank you for the impact you have made on our community and in our hearts.
